An exhibition How Films Are Done
is opened at Lenfilm Studios. All stages of film
production are shown here: from scriptwriter’s study
through make-up studio and shooting set to sounding
and editing. You will see Sherlock Holmes’ room
at Baker street, Hamlet’s chair at Elsinore, as
well as Elizabeth Taylor’s gown from The Blue Bird
(1975), festival prizes and other Lenfilm’s relics.
The exhibition is opened on working days, from 11.00
to 17.00. |

Congratulations
to Igor Maslennikov, famous film director who celebrates
his 80th birthday today. Maslennikov became known
all over the world with his famous version of Sherlock
Holmes and Doctor Watson shot at Lenfilm Studios.

Congratulations
to Alexander Sokurov! His film Faust won the Golden
Lion at the 68th Venice International Film Festival.
Faust is the last part of historical tetralogy which
includes Moloch, Taurus and The Sun. Yuri Arabov’s
script is based on the first part of Goethe’s poem.
The film is in German language, featuring German
actors. |

soldier" film (by Aleksey German-jr.) will
represent Russia at the 65-th FF in Venice (27 August
- 6 September). "Paper
soldier" is the only Russian film allowed
to compete in the general contest of the festival. |

On September 13-19 “Pacific Meridian” International
film festival (countries of Asian-Pacific region)
will take place in Vladivostok. Restrospective show
includes films of “FEKS” (factory of eccentric actors):
“Shinel” (“The greatcoat”), “Novy Vavilon” (“New
Babylon”), “S.V.D.” – and also “FEKS”
- documentary by Oleg Kovalov. This show is dated
for “Lenfilm” 90-th anniversary and Russian cinema
100-th anniversary.

On May 21-25 the week of Russian cinema dated for
“Lenfilm” 90-th anniversary took place in Hamburg.
Retrospective show in “Metropolis”
cinema included 10 “Lenfilm” movies: “Bedny, bedny
Pavel” (“Poor, poor Paul” - by Vitaly Melnikov”),
“Shinel” (“The greatcoat” – by Grigory Kozintsev),
“V toy strane” (“In that country” – by Lidiya Bobrova),
“Vperviye zamuzhem” (“Married for the first time”
– by Iosif Heifits), “Dukhov den” (“Whit Monday”
– by Sergey Selianov), “Vzlomschik” (“The burglar”
– by Valery Ogorodnikov), “Gospodin oformitel” (“Mister
decorator” – by Oleg Teptsov) and others.
With a great delight audience greeted Victor Sukhorukov,
who played leading roles in “Poor, poor Paul” and
“Agitbrigade “Beat the enemy!”.

“Unfading spectators’ love” prize at the “Vivat
Kino Rossii!” (Viva Russian cinema) film festival.
Personal “Unfading spectators’ love” award went
to Vitaly Melnikov, National Artist of Russia.

Today we celebrate our 90-th anniversary.
Vladimir Putin, the President of Russian Federation,
has congratulated "Lenfilm studios":
"I congratulate all the "Lenfilm"
staff with such a marvellous jubilee - 90 years
since studio's foundation. During the past years
"Lenfilm" studios have made a brilliant
creative journey, gained high rank as an acknowledged
center of domestic film-production. Famous and finest
maters worked here, and many spectacular films produced
here are a part of the world film-treasury. I'm
glad that you keep and multiply the glorious "Lenfilm"
traditions. I'm sure that studio will go on with
contributing to Russian culture development and
producing wonderful films.

Home). The film "Varvariny svadby" (Varvara's

(producer and chief-executive of "Lenfilm studios"). |
