An attempt to solve one of the greatest mysteries of world literature…

Noone knows who Shakespear was, that's why not pretending to scientific laurels we let ourselves play this funny fascinating game. With personal assistance of: Elizabeth (virgin-queen of England), her numerous favourites and secret lovers, illegitimate children, her brother-in-law Lord Henry Carry baron Hudson, philosophers Francis Bakon and Francois Voltair, poets and accomplices Marlo and Johnson, heroes of world-famous drama "Hamlet", stars of world science and ordinary fans of the Poet... And, of course, legendary, treacherous and very Swarthy Lady.

INTELLECTUAL GAME for everyone, played in London's "Globe" theatre, in Westminter Abbey, in Tower, in Madam Tussaud's Museum, at the mysterious grave of Shakespear with detailed examination of: unknown to wide audience and obviously faked documents, mysteriously appeared death-mask of a Poet and his portraits (totally different from Him).
And with as friendly as possible examination of very doubtful pretenders to the role of Shakespear (57 people!).

RUSSIAN EMPIRE. THE BEGINNING
(ROSSIYSKAYA IMPERIA. NACHALO)

historical drama, 2007

Directed by Vitaly Melnikov

First, trilogy was considered to be a unified three-part film. Uniting subject was a formation of Russian State system and moral collisions connected with that.
First part was devoted to relations between tsar Peter and his heir, prince Alexey. The second part took us to the peak of Ekaterina's II reign, the time of her desperate struggle for power. The third part told us about the life of Paul I, whose tragic death was like to finish rough XVIII century.
The finale of the third film "Poor, poor Paul" is made like a resumptive ending of the trilogy.
Thus perfomative and artistic potential of all three films gives an opportunity to untwist a wide panorama of russian life in XVIII century, rough and generous with events and dramas.

(MIFY MOEGO DETSTVA)

Tragicomedy, 2005

Written by Yuri Feting, Andrey Kravchuk

Art director Vladislav Orlov, Oleg Oskolkov

Produced by Victor Izvekov

The story takes place in a small village on the beach of Sea of Azov at the
beginning of 1960-s.
Adolescents passionately dream of love about which they have heard from their elder experienced friends. A 16 year-old Ignat is the first to find out what the real feeling is. His love for an adventuress who pretends to be a singer from capital becomes destructive. It is a story of first love and treachery.
Funny and incredible local myths and legends which are related to the cult of ancient settlings are interlaced with the plot. Three thousand years ago on the place of this seaside village a chancel of a pagan Death Goddess was located and natives till today believe that every hundred years she turns back for new victims.
Unique world of childhood is created in this poetic film
An extraordinary visual magic of the film, lyricism and profound philosophic message which is put in the tragicomedy reminds us epical poetry of Paradzanov and Kusturitsa.

Leningrad at the end of the 50s. Ligovka, the city’s riff-raff area.
The tough life of the dwellers of legendary Ligovka’s is shown in the film: young heroes are struggling for life really seriously and dramatically.
But this toughness is required to emphasize the cheerfulness and energy of the heroes, their aspiration for future, no matter what kind of future was to come.
The element of dancing which makes the heroes so overwhelmed with energy that they walk and talk capering and start to dance every time they have a chance to – is one side of Ligovka, and on the other side the characters from heroes’ dreams and ideas move, the characters that are born from the mystical ground of Saint-Petersburg, the city where “the Sun shines in a special way and statues grow from the houses”.

By Lenfilm’s 85th anniversary a group of authors prepared a cycle of video films about legendary directors of the past, who contributed not only to Lenfilm’s, but to the whole Russian cinema’s fame.

Many of them became legends, so now it’s difficult to distinguish real persons behind this legends.

Not a genius, innovator, labor hero, but a personality of an artist who grievously tried to form up his or her creative work and life, who reflected upon it, who made mistakes and discoveries.
These nine films try to expose each legendary director’s secret of originality, their discoveries and mistakes, their aims and wishes in life and art.
