“Gorodomlya” is a
fantasy drama about Human aspiration
to explore the Space. The film is based
on real events: in late 1946 a group
of German experts including scientists
and rocket engineers were working on
the island of Gorodomlya in the lake
of Seliger. In the atmosphere of full
secrecy under supervision of the USSR
Ministry of Defense, a R&D Institute
-88 (so called NII-88) was engaged in
development, production and testing
of rockets good for transferring a capsule
with men to the space. At nights residents
of the vicinities could not sleep waken
up by an unknown roar and glaring flashes
above the lake. The script is based
on the historic events and a fictitious
story of a village boy interwoven together.
Caught with curiosity, the boy gets
to the island where he gets to know
for the first time about the space,
other planets, man`s opportunity to
go beyond the limits of the Earth. The
boy`s friendship with the German rocket
engineer Grepp dramatically changes
his life.
