Elegy journey
along “Lenfilm”, the oldest Russian film-production company.
A recollection on those who make films nowadays.
At midnight when the clock strikes a statue of the Gnome
revives at “Lenfilm” museum. The Gnome wanders along the
huge film-studios with his lantern and a bunch of keys.
The Gnome visits wardrobe, props, furniture departments
and even boiler-house. Finally, at the film-storage he
finds the precious box with the old film-fragments. He
watches the shots of the famous “Lenfilm” movies and recalls
his youth.
And then the Gnome shows himself to the people – he goes
to the stage where they erect the scenery, to the sound-room
where they record the soundtrack and the voice of Viktor
Sukhorukov. We watch Alissa Freundlich at the make-up
room, Anna Kovalchuk together with Dmitry Meskhiev, Igor
Maslennikov, Leonid Mozgovoy and other “Lenfilm” people
sitting in the studio’s cafe on Christmas. We witness
the first public film-screening ever in the “Aquarium”
theater.
The Gnome enters this old stage, switches on the lights
and the house comes to life full of light.
In front of the main entrance “Lenfilm” people come together.
Directors, actors, art-designers – all stand ahead of
the colonnade. The Gnome squeezes through the crowd and
explodes the Christmas-cracker – confetti covers everything
around. The cinema goes on while there are still lights
in the stage…
